THE ONE PERFECT GIFT

Today is Spiritual Sunday and I am looking forward to visiting all the other blogs that have been posted for this event. It is always such a blessing to me and has become my favorite blogging day. You can find all the other posts HERE. Thanks soo much to Charlotte and Ginger for hosting this event.  I have also decided to join Lisa with Bringing Holy back to Christmas.  This is a wonderful idea and I can't wait to see what the Lord has in mind for this, and to see all the posts our blogging friends share.  You can find the link for this event HERE, or on the side of my blog page under the singing bears...

I've been praying for a couple of days now on what the Lord might have me post today. I will tell you a little secret. I have about 70 or so little devotional scripture posts that I have written over the last year that are on another blog I did that no one ever read. So, when I first heard about this event, I began pulling posts from this blog to use. Sometimes I add a little something to them, or change them in some way, but for the most part I simply pick one, and post it. Makes it quick and easy. However, as I was sifting through them this morning I just couldn't settle in on one. I felt the Lord was telling me to post about the Christmas season that is upon us, and yet I have found myself arguing with Him that surely this is the theme many will use, and seems too obvious and over done. Plus Lord you know how busy I am and how behind on all I must do, so surely this is the time more than ever to just pick from my little library of finished work, haha....But I have decided to be obedient and write what I feel like the Lord is laying on my heart...

Luke 2:11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

My family has become so large anymore that we have had to cut back on the amount of gifts we give each year.  We pretty much focus on the grandkids and our children, and have bought either little or nothing for each other or extended family members or friends for the last few years or so.  But there has been many, many years in my past where I have braved the crowded stores and malls and gone in search of the "perfect" gift for my husband.  One that he wouldn't  be expecting, one he would love of course, and certainly something he didn't really need or worse yet, could just go by for himself.   I am sure you now all think I will tell you of some of the wonderful things I have come up with that made him remember just why he thought he made the best decision in the world when he decided to marry me.  But truthfully it just isn't the case.  Oh, I have managed a few unexpected gifts that I am sure he would tell you were wonderful, but I have NEVER found what it is that I have been searching for.

The truth is that we have all been given the "PERFECT" gift already by Almighty God Himself.   His Son Jesus Christ is given freely to us and upon the acceptance of this gift we are given eternal life.  It just doesn't get any better than this.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

I can remember a time in my life where that seemed way too simple and easy to me.  Surely Lord there is more to it than that.  Surely I must DO something.  LIVE my life in a certain way.  GIVE UP most of the things that seem to bring me plesasure (if only for a little while).  And then HOPE at the end of my life that good I did out weighed the bad.  But the truth of course is that it has all been done for me through the PERFECT life of Jesus Christ.  His PERFECT gift to me and to all who believe is an eternity spent with Him and all others who believe.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above...

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes...

Ephesians 2:8,9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

As a Christian I have of course to live my life accordingly.  I have had to struggle with things I needed to set aside and things I needed to do in order to live a life that was pleasing to Him.  But His PERFECT gift to me is always there.  He never leaves me or forsakes me.

Hebrews 13:5... For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

So this year like many others I would pray that all whom I love would be willing to accept that free PERFECT gift from God.  That they would know His love in a real and personal way.  Nothing else any of us will ever receive or give will ever have as much power or meaning in our lives than this one PERFECT gift.  So this Christmas season, as we go about all we do to celebrate His birth, let us all remember just what it is that we are celebrating, and focus on what His coming has given all who believe.

Luke 2:13,14 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

  3. Jesus is the perfect gift and we cannot add anything to that gift. As humans I think we always seem to think we need to earn our way but God's way is different.

I remember when I brought a good friend with me to church for the first time she said something to me afterward. She said the Gospel is so simple. She had been taught that she had to earn her way and pay penance for every bad thing she did. She didn't get that salvation is a free gift. I tried to explain more to her and still pray for her. It's often hard to go from the head to the heart.

    Blessings and love to you,
    Debbie

BTW,did you know that I met Charlotte in person? We had a get together with several AZ bloggers. She is a delight!

  6. Debbie, this is such a wonderful post! We, as Christians, KNOW of His perfect gift to us, yet we also get caught up in the things of the world, especially at Christmas. Imagine those that don't know Him, don't know the gift of salvation through His precious blood. We have so very much to thank Him for, and to celebrate with joy in our hearts. What else could we possibly want, when we have the Holy Spirit of God indwelling our very soul. You really said it well...He is the perfect gift!

    Have a wonderful evening..God bless!

    Mary
