A GORGEOUS MONDAY MORNING!

Well it's a GORGEOUS Monday morning here in So. California and I am thoroughly enjoying it!  I honestly wish we'd had more of a winter this year (the lack of water is sure to be felt later!) but it's hard not to enjoy a day like today.  Our week-end was busy, but VERY productive.  On Sat. hubby got involved helping me to gather the things I needed to have to finish up some of my sewing projects, and also the things I am making to help out with the coming shower.  It is of course difficult for Melody (who is throwing the shower) to do some of the things she wants to do for it from another state.  Some things she has just had shipped here which works fine, but one thing in particular there was just no way she could travel with it so I offered to take care of it for her.  She wants to have a "Blessings Board" for the new baby.  This will be so that everyone attending the shower can write a prayer, wish, or blessing for the coming baby and hang it on the board.  She had seen a few of these on Pinterest, and they are just precious.  Of course like many ideas on Pinterest, if you don't make them yourself they can be VERY costly to order from somewhere on Etsy.  This was no exception.  So considering I have MOST of the items already, I can put it together fairly inexpensively.  Hubby help me get the actual board which we found at Joannes and I used a 50% off coupon which was nice.  Then he helped me cover it using a fabric I used for the rag quilt and still have quite a bit on hand.  I like to buy favorite flannels when they have a super sale going on them and just have them around for things such as this.  Today I will get the wording and the rest of the items on the board, also from fabrics I have already.  I am anxious to do this, as I honestly can't wait to see how it will turn out.  I am a tiny bit concerned about ironing on the lettering etc., but we will see.  While I do A LOT of sewing of course, crafts (which is what I would call this) is not really something I do very much of.  So hopefully it will all come together as I see it in my mind.  I have done quite a bit of praying the last few days about the subject of showing my projects etc on my blog, and have decided to just continue on as I have always done.  I do appreciate the encouragement to do so that I got from most of you.  I figure the only women who are looking at my blog anyway are women who enjoy this kind of thing like I do.  And I guess if someone feels I am being boastful, while I am sad they feel that way, they can always just not look, lol.  I gather ideas from all of you, and love sharing them around blogland.  How it would bother me if people stopped doing that.  Sooo all of that to say, sewing and creating is what I do, and this blog will probably have a lot of in it.  I will share as I go along, and hopefully MOST people will simply enjoy it as the simple mindless enjoyment it was intended for.  Enough on that....now I want to tell you about the bed skirt I made for the crib.  As it turns out, the crib is a very different type crib, and putting a bed skirt on it was really kind of necessary to cover up some things you just wouldn't want to see.  HOWEVER, the standard bed skirt pattern I intended to use was NOT going to work either.  So that meant I kind of had to re-make the pattern to work for this crib.  Let me just say up front....NOT my strength, lol.  However, it is finally done, and I am sooo hoping it actually fits the crib and gets the job done.  Let me show it to you...

HERE IS THE SKIRT.  LOOKS KIND OF FUNNY HERE AS OF COURSE IT IS LAYING FLAT NOT HANGING DOWN.  PRETTY, TAILORED GREY AND WHITE IS WHAT SHE WANTED

THE SKIRT ITSELF HAD TO BE SHORTENED QUITE A BIT AS THERE IS ONLY ROOM FOR EXACTLY 10 INCHES...MADE IT, LOL

KIND OF MADE UP HOW TO PUT THIS WHITE STRIPE ON AND I WAS CONCERNED MY PLEATS WOULD MATCH WITH IT...WORKED PRETTY GOOD I THINK

INSIDE AS WELL
I have also wanted for a while to put snaps on my bibs instead of velco.  So hubby found a tool to help me do that and together we figured out how to use it.  Truthfully by the end he did it as I was soo beat at that point I was too tired to look at it anymore, lol  He put 5 of them on for me so we could give Vinny his new bibs yesterday.  May just make this part his permanent job, lol.  We pretty much spent the whole day working on these kind of things and between all of that and giving Elvis his bath etc., the day went quickly. Yesterday we went to church and then lunch and then celebrated Donatella's birthday party at her other grandparents house.  SUCH a fun, relaxing day.  Our oldest son and his family joined us on the day, so that was nice too. Here are a couple of pictures from that.

I am glad that you decided to continue to share your projects. And the bed skirt is wonderful. I need to make a bed skirt for my queen-sized bed (can't find what I want), but it sounds like a big deal. I wish you were here to give me instructions! :)

  6. You have a bed skirt pattern? I need to make a quilt for the daybed in my sewing room ... and that means a new bed skirt as well. It seems like it should be easy, but I fear not ... it needs to be split for the front legs as well as only have 3 sides. I don't know that I'm creative enough nor a good enough sew-er to be able to tweak an existing pattern.

I'm so glad that you're going to continue to share your handiwork with us. I look forward to seeing the fruits of your labor.

  9. We've had plenty of winter here : ) I admit to enjoying it though...I look forward to spring and the changing seasons, but I think I'd miss snow if I lived somewhere without any. There is something very soothing about a snow day, no matter your age. Course a dash of Calif sunshine now and then would be nice too!
