I was thinking that maybe I shouldn't do my posts in the late afternoons after I am done sewing for the day, as I am ALWAYS soo tired and done, and it might make me come off too whiny or like I am complaining too much; but then I don't want to do them first thing in the morning either when I am at my best, as that is definitely when it is best to head to my machine....guess maybe your just stuck with a whiny complainer now and then, lol. Goodness, I have put in quite the week at the machine. Let me just go back and see if I can even remember what all I have been on. On Monday I got all of Larissa's curtains made. There are curtains for 4 different windows, and then a little cupboard that holds toys and things under their TV that she decided would look good with a little curtain in front of it too. This was a pretty quick and totally enjoyable project for me, and truthfully sooo easy it was somewhat what I call "mindless" sewing...my favorite kind btw. They were all just valances, and I am anxious to see how they will look. And then, I got busy on PJ's for Sam and Luke. These too were pretty quick and easy to make. That was at least until I got to the appliques I put on the front of them. I have decided that I have got to be in just the right mood for appliques, lol. And "the mood" doesn't really hit me often. Now just the straight embroidery I seem to enjoy ALL the time. But the appliques are A LOT of work, and are somewhat "fiddly" and they kind of stress me. I just wish I didn't like the finished products soo much, as they are what make me press on. Anyway, I did finally get the appliques on. Then, I have gone somewhat pillow case crazy as well, lol I guess in many ways it is sooo me. I find something I really like, and the next thing you know I am making a ton of them. They are quick, easy, darling, not too expensive to make up, and I think my grandkids are going to love them, so I just keep making them. I have decided to give them to ALL of my grands, not just the little ones, and some of them are getting more then one as well. I made a thanksgiving one for Sam as I already had all the fabric and so it seemed "free". And then my grand daughters will each get one made out of the Frozen fabric that is finally on the market. Anyone who has a daughter or grand daughter in the age group of enjoying this movie, will know how large most of these girls have this movie, and all that is involved with it. My sister Diane found some DARLING Frozen fabric at Walmart and bought me a couple yards too. I made pillow cases with these pieces. And then in San Diego last Sunday with my granddaughters they found some more and each picked out some for a new nighty. Sooo I decided to whip that all up this week too. The pillowcases flew together, and Tell's nighty was a dream to make, but Capri's?! Oh my goodness....Don't know what I was thinking agreeing to make a nighty for her out of this particular fabric she picked. It was a slick, polyester satin, and I know from years of experience, a nightmare (for this gal anyway), to work with. It slips and slides around, sucks down in the bobbin hole, ravels terribly, and is generally just a pain. But for some reason I couldn't bear to tell her no, and thought SURELY I can make ONE nightgown out of it. Then....I picked out a pattern (truthfully one of the few I could find that had what she wanted on it in her size) that I also knew I wasn't going to like. I don't like round necks with facings, (too fussy) and round hemlines are also a pain. ESPECIALLY with slick satin fabric. But I bought it anyway. Sooo, this morning was the day for Capri's nightgown and let me just say it's a miracle it's done and not in the trash, lol. I just couldn't get it to cooperate. I struggled and pinned and ironed and ripped out until I wanted honestly to scream. lol But it is FINALLY done. And then just when I was feeling kind of smug my wonderful DIL Larissa texted me to let me know I had left the T out of the name for the label on the quilt I had made for that couple. I quickly checked and realized she was right and honestly as dramatic as it sounds I could have just burst into tears, lol. That label was SUCH a pain to embroider as the lettering was soo small, and the machine just wasn't feeling it. The thought of doing it all over again made me wonder if a label was even necessary, lol. However, I decided it was and got to work. And!! I figured out (after a year and half of having this machine!) how to add more then 3 lines to a design. You have NO idea how BIG this is. How much easier it will make it for me. It shouldn't be necessary to make things super small to accommodate just 3 lines anymore. I am not going to dwell on the fact that the gal at the store where I bought the machine TOLD ME there was NO WAY to do such a thing without buying a 1200 dollar program to download to the machine. It might has well been 12,000 it was soo out. Soo all this time I have struggled. But suddenly a light bulb went off, and it occurred to me....why couldn't I just do this and that, (too long to explain and I doubt your interested anyway, lol) and believe it or not it worked!!! I was sooo excited. So the bottom line is the label now has 5 lines, much bigger font, and is way better then it was in the first place. I am sooo glad my dil caught this mistake, as I would have been soo embarrassed to have misspelled their name on their gift. Can you imagine? lol Then Diane was here on Thursday and we worked some on her quilt and then took a break and went to lunch and then to Joannes where we picked out some fabric to finish up the Frozen pillowcases. (she is making 2 as well). Soo here I am. Let me FINALLY show you some of these projects...
